		<description>Hi Joyce,
I was reading your blog about your interest in geneology and noticed that you have roots in Burgeo, Newfoundland. I also do geneology, live here in Victoria and I am from Burgeo. My mother is an Anderson and I have the Anderson family tree done back to when the first Anderson moved to Burgeo from Scotland. I would be interested in sharing some information if you would like.

Take care

<description>Hi, I am trying to trace my grandfather Fred Whittell/Whittle.

It is a long story but the short version goes something like this:

My grandmother Sarah lived in a village in Co Armagh, Ireland and in 1922 she fell in love with a Fred Whittell who was based with the British Army (The Royal West Kentish Regt.) nearby. Ireland was in turmoil then and subsequently was divided North and South in 1922. That is why the British Army was present in Ireland. - Just to set the scene for you.

She fell pregnant and my mother was born in 1923. Fred sawhis daughter, my mother, and wanted to marry my grandmother but her father would not allow this. She was not young, she was in her 30s but I suppose this was a sign of the times. Fred saw my mother for the last time in 1925 before he returned to England and as far as I know all contact between Sarah and Fred ceased.

My grandmother never married but kept Greta, their daughter and lived with us (my mum, Greta, dad and three children) until she died at the ripe old age of 95 in 1987. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was loved dearly by us. My mother is now in her 87th year and in failing health and I am on a mission to find out something about her father for her.

If you are related to this Fred Whittell or know of anyone who may have known him please contact me.

Thank you for listening.

Sincerely,
Anne Wallace
